WHAT CAUSED TODAYS AYURVEDA TO WHAT IT IS!

In olden days, the ayurveda was taught from guru to the deciple, The students needed to graze cows in the forest where they practically learned about the herbs. The cows (native indian cows, bos indicus) used to also graze herbs from the forest. The milk was used to produce grithams (medicated ghee) which was further used by the vaidya to heal the paitents. Other cow grazers used to sell these forest herbs to the vaidyas. The cows in return used to manure the forest soil with their dung and urine while grazing.

This unique bondage between the forest-cow-vaidya-paitent was broken across India over the years by the different governments by imposing bans on the cattle grazing in forests with the view of betterment for the wildlife.

Farmers on the other hand started adopting jersy cows (bos taurus) , the white revolution, as they found it ecnomically viable due to high milk (low nutrition) production. Moreover these cows dont need grazing as feeding is easy at the farm. The green revolution bought in chemical fertiliseres, pesticides and herbicides which deteriorated the soil structure resulting in low-nutrition, toxin-rich, food output for both humans and cattle.

The vaidyas unable to get herbs from forest started depending on nurseries and farms which was influenced by the green and white revolution. By this time, Ayurveda started getting commercialised. The ayurvedic education system got framed with similar approach of allopathy education. The patients too wanted immediate results in the fast moving life which further commercialized Ayurveda and made it ineffective to what we see today. The kashayams, grithams, rasayams etc started to get manufactured on large scale with preservatives for long shelf life in plastic bottles and without taking into consideration the quality, nutrition level and toxicity of the raw materials and packing used. Grithams are now being manufactured from the ghee of milk produced by the jersy cows which cosumes chemical farm waste. The input raw materials are produced on large scale using the chemicals. They say, to be competitive in the market, the cost needs to be controlled.

What is the solution? Me being a permaculture farmer, I feel permaculture cultivation and soil restoration techniques can be adopted for producing nutrition rich chemical free herbs. But again, is the consumer market ready for this? Viewers please advise.
